One of the things that makes Nanaimo unique is its proximity to open country. Nowhere is that more evident than the Jingle Pot neighbourhood. This community offers a true country experience with all the convenience of city living. If you crave acreage to roam in – if you want a horse, a few chickens and a big vegetable garden, this is the neighbourhood for you. It’s also a neighbourhood known for serenity, recreation and access to some of Nanaimo’s most spectacular attractions. And in addition to pretty hobby farms, it also boasts many working farms, which only add to the eclectic, unique atmosphere. New developments are being created in pockets of this area, which feature large lots, often more than an acre, and lots of room to stretch and grow. The centrepiece of this neighbourhood is Westwood Lake with Mount Benson rising behind it. Westwood Lake is Nanaimo’s favourite swimming beach in the summer and arguably the best walking and running trails year-round. Westwood Lake also welcomes kayaks and canoes. For those wanting more strenuous exercise, mountain biking is a popular sport on the slopes of Mount Benson while hikers can hoof it to the very top for views that go on forever. Ammonite Falls, Nanaimo’s most spectacular waterfall, is also accessible front the Jingle Pot area.
