Hammond Bay is one of Nanaimo’s most scenic neighbourhoods. In fact, a drive along Hammond Bay Road with stops at Piper’s and Neck Point Parks and perhaps a pause at Piper’s Pub could easily constitute an ideal Saturday or Sunday outing in Nanaimo. The residences in this area are oriented toward the ocean with many special waterfront homes while others rise in tiers up the hill affording many homes truly spectacular ocean views that take in the Winchelsea Islands and the snow capped peaks of the Mainland. Piper’s Lagoon is one of Nanaimo’s most loved parks featuring a grand beach that’s a favourite launch spot for windsurfers and a garry oaks preserve at the end of the isthmus. Neck Point Park offers a rugged oceanfront walk and a varied and priceless natural setting. Local shopping is offered at the Co-op store while neighbours like to gather at nearby Serious Coffee. The Walley Creek trail is a favourite for walkers as is Linley Park, offering acres of pristine wilderness that can easily make you forget you are walking in the centre of a thriving city.
