Drive five minutes south of Nanaimo to Cedar/Yellow Point and feel yourself transported to a different world. This area is the epitome country living. Even the village centre of Cedar speaks of the country life. Its working farms and hobby acreages are picturesque in the extreme. This large area encompasses the unique and pretty enclave of Cedar-by-the-Sea with terraced slopes affording every home a sweeping view of the sea; Cedar Village Centre with its cafés, shops and white steepled village churches; and Yellow Point with its farms and famous landmarks. The Crow and Gate Pub may well be the neighbourhood’s most famous destination – a true English Country Pub set in lush gardens and overlooking a duck pond. The Yellow Point Lodge has been another noteworthy landmark for decades, drawing visitors to its rustic accommodations and spectacular waterfront setting. Cedar/Yellow Point also boasts excellent parks including Hemer Provincial Park with trees that rival the size of almost any on the island. Summers are a favourite in this area with Sunday’s Cedar Farmers Market drawing people from all over the city. The area is also home to dozens of artists and artisans, most welcoming visitors on weekends. Residences range from impressive waterfront contemporary and farmhouse chic to cottage charming. Cedar/Yellow Point has it all.
